JOHANNESBURG - A third car belonging to a foreign national has been set alight in Refilwe township in Cullinan, east of Pretoria.

The car was allegedly torched by children in the area.

Residents are threatening further violence if foreigners don't leave the area.

Police spokeswoman Marissa van der Merwe said, "This is serious stuff when children are being used for criminal activity. It must be taken very seriously."

At least four people have so far been arrested for public violence.

Residents are protesting following the death of a 10-year-old boy, who was apparently beaten to death by a foreigner for stealing sweets.

Fresh clashes between police and residents erupted after two protesters were shot and wounded on Wednesday morning.

Police used stun grenades, teargas and fired rubber bullets after they were pelted with stones.

According to police, 15 foreign-owned spaza shops were looted overnight.

One shop was also torched.
