'Gang bosses targeting youth'
WC Police Commissioner is concerned gang bosses are recruiting youngsters as young as 12.
CAPE TOWN - Western Cape Police Commissioner Arno Lamoer has expressed concern at the increasing number of youths joining gangs.
Lamoer says gang bosses are targeting and recruiting youths, many of whom are still in primary school.
He says children as young as 12 are being drafted and admits he's perturbed by the growing trend, which is becoming the norm in many gang-riddled communities.
"That is our biggest concern because a lot of these gang bosses were in prison, they're now coming out and some of them don't want to be involved in this industry anymore. Now young people are being recruited."
But the commissioner says the police is doing all it can to stop gang violence in the province.
