Two illegal Klipfontein miners killed
The bodies were discovered several kilometers away from the abandoned shaft.
JOHANNESBURG - There are now two groups of illegal miners underground at two separate mines in Benoni on the East Rand, paramedics confirmed on Tuesday.
In the latest discovery, two men have been killed just kilometers away from the abandoned Klipfontein shaft where 25 miners have surfaced since Sunday.
It's believed the pair died when the shaft caved in.
Officials are certain as to the number of people still trapped underground.
Ekurhuleni emergency service spokesperson Rogers Mamaila says the families of the victims are on scene.
Earlier on Tuesday, three more men emerged from underground at the Klipfontein mine.
Many illegal miners are remaining underground for fear of being arrested.
