2 CT gang bosses convicted
The leader of the 28s gang, Saliem John, and gangster Mallick Petersen have both been convicted.
CAPE TOWN - Western Cape Police Commissioner Arno Lamoer says the successful conviction of two gangsters is just the first major blow to gangsterism in the province.
The leader of the 28s gang in Valhalla Park, Saliem John, was convicted last week along with six others on several charges, including murder dating back to 2007.
Gangster Mallick Petersen received three life terms on Friday.
His 15 co-accused were also given hefty sentences for offences including murder.
Lamoer says these successes are only the beginning for authorities.
"This is the start of much bigger things to come. We are using all the available resources and all the laws of our country to ensure that we address the gang violence and gangsterism in the province."
