JOHANNESBURG - Officials are conducting a post-mortem on a child found dead underneath a bridge in Diepsloot, in the north of Johannesburg, at the weekend.

It's unclear if the girl, believed to be around three-year's-old, had been sexually assaulted before she died.

Police believe her body may have been dumped under the bridge.

The police's Katlego Mogale says the child's family has still not come forward.

"No one has come forward to actually check or rather open a missing person's case."

The police are waiting for the post-mortem results.

The body was found near a stream in the area by a passerby who then alerted the police.

Five children have been murdered in separate incidents in Diepsloot in less than six months.
