JOHANNESBURG - The man found guilty of the rape and murder of a four-year-old East Rand girl is expected to be sentenced in the High Court sitting in Palm Ridge today.

Modise Motapane was found guilty of the kidnap, rape and murder of Keabetswe Tshabalala.

Relatives found the little girl's body in an abandoned building in Katlehong in September last year.

She had been strangled.

Tshabalala was playing outside with her friends when she went missing.

She was found the next day, about 50 metres away from her home.

Motapane, who was arrested shortly after her death, is a family friend who frequently visited the girl's home.

The presiding judge described the act as one of the cruellest he ever had to deal with.

Meanwhile, Tshabalala's family has called for a harsh sentence for Motapane, saying people like him don't belong in society.
