MAMELODI - Hundreds of supporters of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have gathered in Mamelodi ahead of the launching of the party's official election manifesto.

Ahead of the 7 May elections, Julius Malema will announce his party's strategy in the hope of swaying voters to the new party.

Scores of people wearing red EFF T-shirts and the party's signature berets are gathered at an open field in Stoffle Park in Mamelodi east.

Police have established a base near the gathering which Malema is expected to address shortly.

The party's main campaign truck, which will be put into action from this afternoon, is parked in front of the party's supporters.

Painted in red and yellow, the truck is mounted with large speakers currently playing political songs and slogans.

Down the road from where the EFF gathering is taking place, a handful of ANC supporters in their trademark yellow T-shirts are holding a rival meeting.

At the same time, ANC Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa is on the campaign trail in the Western Cape where concerned residents have expressed doubts over the party's promise to deliver housing.
