JOHANNESBURG - Kaizer Chiefs' nine Premiership match winning streak ended on Tuesday night at the Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg.

Maritzburg United played the log leaders into a tight corner when the game ended at 2-2.

Chiefs were forced to come from behind twice to secure a point, but remain top of the table, with nine points ahead of Sundowns, who are second with two games in hand.

Maritzburg went ahead in the first minute of the game when Ryan de Jongh pulled a powerful volley to beat Itumeleng Khune.

Chiefs then equalised five minutes later through Kingston Nkhatha after goalkeeper Shu-Aib Walters spilled a shot from Simphiwe Tshabalala.

The 'Team of Choice' were awarded a penalty in the 36th minute after Lorenzo Gordinho, who made his PSL debut, tripped Kurt Lentjies in the penalty box.

Bongolwethu Jayiya made no mistake from the penalty spot.

Tefu Mashamaite then rescued the situation in the 80th minute from a header.

New signing, Katlego Mphela, came on for Nkatha, but failed to score after Tshabalala slid a ball through to him minutes after he walked in.

United moved up to 13 on the log.
