Malema promises to double grants if elected
EFF leader Julius Malema says South Africans deserve a better life and better jobs.
JOHANNESBURG - Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has promised the residents of Winnie Mandela Park in Tembisa he will double social grants if they put him in power.
Malema addressed hundreds of EFF supporters mainly to invite them to the party's manifesto launch at Mehlareng Stadium in the area later this month.
He received loud applause when he promised the residents better jobs.
"You all deserve a better life, in your families there must be at least one person working in a better condition and earning a better salary."
Meanwhile, an advocate for the South African Revenue Service (Sars) on Tuesday accused Malema of attempting to stall his sequestration so he can be elected to become a Member of Parliament (MP).
But the North Gauteng High Court dismissed his bid to have the matter postponed, declared him insolvent and placed him under sequestration.
According to insolvency attorneys, this has dashed his hopes of making it to the National Assembly unless he can prove to the court by May why this order should not be set aside.
