Parliament prepares for SONA
Parliament says preparations are on track for this year's State of the Nation Address.
CAPE TOWN - Parliament says preparations are on track for the hosting of this year's State of the Nation Address (SONA) in two days' time.
President Jacob Zuma will deliver his speech at 7pm in the National Assembly on Thursday.
The SONA will be a full ceremonial occasion in Parliament followed by a banquet at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) for invited guests.
All of this comes at a cost.
Acting secretary of Parliament Baby Tyawa says R5.7 million has already been spent.
"The pamphlets, the banners, our platforms that we use, YouTube, radio adverts, so it's quite an inclusive budget."
Since this is an election year there will be another SONA after South Africans go to the polls on 7 May.
