CAPE TOWN - Some Delft residents say they have little hope for youth in their community, following yet another vicious attack on a child.

An 11-year-old girl's body was found in a shack in Delft South at the weekend, less than 500 metres from her home.

Siphokuhle Flephu was apparently playing outside on Saturday evening when she disappeared.

It's thought she may have been raped.

A man accused of the crime was attacked by angry community members on Saturday.

H e is currently in hospital under police guard.

'Helpless', 'outraged', 'frustrated' and 'heartbroken' are just some of the words community members have used to describe how they feel following the murder.

Delft resident Nomta Philips says something should be done as they live in fear and for their own safety.

"I can't even sleep. I just see her little body. It's terrible!"

In January, a nine-year-old girl was raped, set alight and left for dead.

A few days before that, a six-year-old girl was raped in a communal toilet.
