Taxi fares may increase
The National Taxi Alliance says it is under extreme pressure to hike prices.
JOHANNESBURG - Taxi fares could increase from 1 March following last week's petrol price hike, the National Taxi Alliance said on Monday.
Motorists are now paying R13,96 for a litre of petrol.
The National Taxi Alliance says while the fuel price has been rising for the past four years, taxi rates have stayed the same.
From the beginning of March, commuters could be paying between R2 and R5 more per trip.
The alliance's Theo Malele says, "We are not being subsidised and we fear that increasing fares will put pressure on our commuters, but we are under extreme pressure."
