Metro police shot in Manenberg
Two Metro cops were shot and wounded in Manenberg during a routine patrol.
CAPE TOWN - Two Western Cape metro police officers are currently in a stable condition after they were shot several times during a routine patrol in gang-stricken Manenberg.
The pair pulled over a vehicle while carrying out a stop-and-search operation early on Saturday morning.
As they approached the car the occupants opened fire.
It's alleged their attackers had hijacked a vehicle in Athlone just hours before the incident.
The city's JP Smith says, "Those metro police sergeants are stable, neither of them are at risk at the moment. One of them will probably require a further operation to remove bullets but he is fine for now."
