CAPE TOWN - National government is not doing enough to protect citizens, Democratic Alliance (DA) Parliamentary leader Lindiwe Mazibuko said on Monday.

She visited Bredasdorp to speak to residents as well as visit the site where teenager Anene Booysen was raped, mutilated and murdered.

The crime took place a little more than a year ago.

Mazibuko says sexual violence has become a big problem.

"We know it's something that's not only happening in Bredasdorp in the Western Cape. It has happened in Brakpan, in Soweto and even in the North West."

She says communities no longer feel safe.

In yet another example of sexual violence in the Western Cape, an 11-year-old girl was found dead in a shack in Delft over the weekend.

It is believed she had been raped.
