JOHANNESBURG - Political parties have commended the outcome of the voter registration during the weekend.

Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane says she is positive the ANC will win the province again.

"The ANC will win Gauteng, the country and then make a difference in the Western Cape. We won't win out of arrogance but because of our track record of the things we've done."

Political parties had their hands full with some embarking on door-to-door campaigns.

At the same time, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) says it believes it stands a good chance in this year's elections.

"EFF is what South Africans have been waiting for because we are entering the second phase of the liberation struggle and the most basic demand is of economic freedom."

The weekend was the last day eligible voters could register at their voting stations for this year's general elections which will take place on 7 May.

From today, South Africans will have to register at their municipalities during office hours.
