CAPE TOWN - Around 900 Mitchells Plain pupils have been denied entry into schools in the area due to a lack of space.

The issue was discussed during a meeting by concerned parents over the weekend.

A community-based forum, which was established in 2010 to address education-related problems, has given the Western Cape Education Department several days to find a solution.

The Mitchells Plain Education Forum's Colleen Horswell says, "We've given the department until Wednesday to see where they can place these children, even if it means busing them out of the area. They will give us feedback at 11am on Wednesday."

Meanwhile, the department says around 20,000 learners from the Eastern Cape have enrolled in schools in this province in 2014.
