Sochi: Zim to compete in skiing
Luke Steyn will be representing the southern African country in Sochi, Russia.
CAPE TOWN - Skier Luke Steyn will represent Zimbabwe in Sochi during Friday's opening ceremony.
This will be the first time the southern African country will take part in these games.
Togo and Morocco are the only other African countries competing in the tournament in Russia.
Steyn left Zimbabwe at the age of two and learnt to ski on family vacations in Europe.
His home country then tracked him down and Steyn gathered enough points in time to qualify for the Sochi Winter Olympics.
Zimbabwe Olympic Committee Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Secretary General Anna Mguni says it's an amazing achievement for the country.
"It has always been one of our dreams to participate in every single programme that the Olympic committee has."
Mguni says they are backing Steyn financially wherever possible.
She says the body will not put pressure on him to bring a medal home.
