Philippi man killed in vigilante attack
A 45-year-old man has died after he was allegedly assaulted by community members.
CAPE TOWN - Police say no arrests have been made after a Philippi man died in an alleged vigilante attack.
The incident took place on Tuesday after the victim was accused of breaking into houses in the area.
Angry community members then took matters into their own hands.
The police's Andre Traut says the man died in hospital.
"The circumstances around the death of a 45-year-old man are being investigated by police. He was admitted to hospital on 4 February, where he succumbed to his injuries. It's suspected he was severely assaulted by community members in Brown's Farm on the same day."
