Madiba's former PA 'touched' to be in will
Togo Mavuso is one of nine former employees who received R50,000 from Nelson Mandela’s estate.
JOHANNESBURG - One of Nelson Mandela's former personal assistants says she feels honoured and humbled to have been included in his will which she never expected to happen.
On Monday, an "executive summary" of the late statesman's will was revealed at the Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory in Houghton.
Mandela's estate is estimated to be worth around R46 million excluding three trust funds and royalties associated with his name.
Togo Mavuso is one of nine former employees who've each received R50,000 from Madiba's estate.
"I didn't think we meant so much to him."
She says she feels overwhelmed.
"Madiba was a caring person. In the mornings when I came in he would ask me how my family was doing."
Mandela provided generously for his family, the schools and universities he attended and the African National Congress.
It remains to be seen whether any of the family members will contest the will.
Madiba passed away at his Houghton home on 5 December and at the age of 95.
He was buried in the rural village of Qunu in the Eastern Cape on 15 December at a funeral service attended by 4,000 people.
