Zille, Ramphele discuss way forward
It was announced last week that Ramphele would be the DA's presidential candidate.
JOHANNESBURG - Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Helen Zille will be meeting with Mamphela Ramphele on Sunday evening to discuss their future relationship.
It was announced last week that Ramphele would be the DA's presidential candidate in the elections.
On Friday the party released a statement that the Agang SA leader and its members would be welcomed into the DA, but Ramphele says she had not agreed to this.
Zille says she will be discussing the issue on Sunday night for clarity.
"I will certainly ask her tonight whether she's intending to stick to our agreement because we can't carry on and have different surprises every day."
News of Ramphele's move to join the DA as its presidential candidate ahead of the national elections later this year made waves this week, with reported infighting within Agang's ranks.
Certain members within Agang claimed their leader would be booted out for her 'betrayal'.
However the group later quelled those claims, saying Ramphele remains their leader and is not being expelled from the party, which she formed 10 months ago.
With both leaders meeting tonight, clarity on their way forward could be revealed soon.
