De Sa resigns from Pirates
Assistant coach Eric Tinkler will step in as caretaker coach.
JOHANNESBURG - Orlando Pirates coach Roger de Sa has resigned from his position with immediate effect, the club confirmed on Friday.
Assistant coach Eric Tinkler will step in as caretaker coach until a permanent solution is found.
In his resignation letter, de Sa thanked Orlando Pirates chairperson Irvin Khoza for affording him the opportunity to coach the Soweto giants.
"I will always be appreciative and I take with me fond memories of my time at the club. I wish everybody at the club, including the technical team, players and management success in the future."
Khoza expressed his gratitude to de Sa, who guided Pirates to three finals including the African Champions League final, which they last reached 15 years ago.
"I know Roger would have loved to add the second golden star to the Orlando Pirates logo. He now knows how to get there, said the chairperson.
"Roger leaves Orlando Pirates with an enhanced CV. I wish him well in his future endeavours."
