Hughes excited for SA tour
Australian opener Phil Hughes is elated to be joining the touring party in South Africa.
JOHANNESBURG - Australian opener Phil Hughes says he's excited to hopefully get some game time against the Proteas.
The left hander has been rushed in to the squad as cover for injured Shaun Marsh.
Hughes says he's eager to get stuck into the tour.
"I got the call late afternoon. I'm really excited, and I'm on the first plane over there. I've been given the green light, and I'm all smiles really. I can't wait to get there and get amongst the boys. It's been a while since I've been with the squad, but I'm really excited and can't wait to get there."
Looking back at his previous innings in country, Hughes says he's got good memories of playing in South Africa.
"I've been there a few times on a couple of Test tours, and I've really enjoyed my time there. It's almost five years to the day since I first went there, so there are good memories in the back of my mind and I can't wait to get back there. They're a quality team and they have been for a number of years now, so it's going to be great."
The first Test gets underway on 12 February at Supersport Park in Centurion.
