CAPE TOWN - As the Steenberg community organises the funeral of a young mother who died during a shootout, gang related violence continues to grip areas in the Western Cape.

Leslin Mentor was killed during an apparent gang shooting along Concert Boulevard this week and she will be laid to rest next weekend.

Mentor was going to start her first day back at work after being on maternity leave.

She has a five-month-old daughter.

Her uncle, Graham Petersen, says action needs to be taken against gangs.

"Our people are crying out for a commission of inquiry to take place. Because 90 percent of the community wanted to cooperate with the South African police, but due to putting their own lives in danger makes it very difficult for us as the community to cooperate with the police."
