DA announces premier candidates
The DA has announced its candidate lists for the upcoming general elections.
JOHANNESBURG - The Democratic Alliance (DA) has announced its candidate lists for the upcoming national elections later this year with no surprises emerging.
DA leader Helen Zille has emerged as the premier candidate in the Western Cape while Mmusi Maimane will be the Gauteng premier if the DA is elected into power in the province.
Zille says it is very important that the party announces its premier candidates so that South Africans know who will be their premier if they vote for the DA.
This is in contrast with how the ANC works.
The ruling party will only announce its premier candidates after they have been elected into power.
The DA strongly believes it stands a chance to snatch Gauteng away from the ANC which has been leading the province since 1994.
Other DA premier candidates are Andrew Louw for the Northern Cape, where the opposition party also feels it has gained support.
Chris Hatting remains the premier candidate for the North West, where the DA has tasted some victory by unseating the ANC in the Tlokwe Municipality for several months.
There are six confidential candidates on the lists.
They will now have to decide whether they will inform their employers and reveal their names.
