Speelman denied Olympics dream
Sascoc has confirmed that skier Sive Speelman will not be going to the 2014 Winter Olympics.
CAPE TOWN - The South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (Sascoc) has decided that skier Sive Speelman will not participate in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
The decision was made after a recommendation from the high performance advisory committee to the Sascoc Board, who unanimously endorsed the recommendation.
Speelman failed to meet the International Ski Federation's complicated criteria for admission to participate in the Games, but hoped that Sascoc would still send him to Russia by exercising their right to take up one allocated entry slot.
After taking Speelman's world ranking into account (he is ranked 2,290th), and considering all the other facts related to the case, the committee has confirmed that Speelman will not be going to the Winter Olympics in Sochi.
