WC govt. fined the city for beginning projects without conducting environmental impact assessments.

CAPE TOWN - Western Cape Environmental Affairs MEC Anton Bredell says it's important for the City of Cape Town to investigate why officials failed to get the necessary authorisation on some projects.

The City of Cape Town is being fined R200,000 by the provincial government for starting projects without doing an environmental impact assessment first.

A report on the matter was submitted to the city's mayoral committee this week.

Bredell says the city must find out why these transgressions happened.

"The city must understand what happened and who is responsible for not adhering to the rightful process."
