Axe murderer to appear in court
Prosecutors believe the suspect must undergo psychiatric observation.
JOHANNESBURG - A 25-year-old man who confessed to killing his 60-year-old grandmother and two other relatives with an axe in Orange Farm is expected to appear in court today.
Two male cousins were also injured during the attack.
Last week, the man pleaded guilty to all charges against him while he had no legal representation.
The state then informed the Vereeniging Regional Court that the 25-year-old would not be allowed to enter into a plea.
Prosecutors believe the suspect must undergo psychiatric observation despite his family insisting that he does not suffer from mental problems.
The man also attacked a six-year-old relative who escaped unharmed.
