Police hunt for mother who dumped baby
A passerby heard the baby's cries from a pit toilet in Concordia Informal Settlement.
CAPE TOWN - Police in the Southern Cape say they're still searching for the mother of a newborn baby boy who was dumped in a pit toilet in Knysna on Christmas Day.
A passerby heard the baby crying and alerted authorities.
The police's Malcolm Pojie says, "We have learned that the child has been discharged from hospital and placed under foster care. The child is doing well and is in good health."
Police say they are investigating a case of attempted murder against the mother of the child.
At the same time, several children have been killed in recent months throughout the country.
The Democratic Alliance has since called on government to intensify the fight against women and child abuse.
