Mayweather: I'm The Best Ever
Floyd Mayweather considers himself to be the greatest boxer to have ever fought in the ring
JOHANNESBURG - Floyd 'Money' Mayweather says he considers himself to be the greatest ever boxer.
Mayweather is in the country to help promote the sport of boxing and will hold a boxing clinic in Dube, Soweto on Thursday evening.
Speaking on how he would rank himself in relation to other boxing greats, Mayweather had no doubt about where he fits in.
"I'm 'TBE'. Muhammad Ali was considered the greatest, but I call myself 'TBE', which stands for 'The Best Ever'."
The American boxer landed at OR Tambo yesterday before joining Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula and SACSOC President Gideon Sam at a press conference.
Speaking at the conference, Mbalula had nothing but praise for the undefeated Mayweather.
"God gave you a gift, and you knew how to use it. You share it today with humanity. You were born in America, but we know that your origins are from the African continent. We bless you in the land of Nelson Mandela, and it is great to have you here. It should have happened long ago, but we are grateful that you are here now while you are still a champion."
Mayweather admitted that coming to South Africa is a goal he has had for a long time.
"It's been a long road and a long journey, but hard work and dedication paid off. It's always been one of my dreams to come back to the motherland, and I'm here now. It took 36 years, but I'm here."
