Matfield return would boost Bulls
Jake White says the playing return of Victor Matfield would give the Bulls a massive boost
JOHANNESBURG - Sharks director of rugby Jake White has told EWN Sport that Victor Matfield's playing return will prove to be a huge fillip to the Bulls.
There is still no confirmation yet that the 36-year-old will make a return to playing, but it's understood that negotiations are at an advanced stage in this regard.
The Sharks opening game of Super Rugby this year is against the Bulls, and White told EWN Sport Matfield will be making a return.
"It's not stories. Whether he decides to play in that first game, we're not sure about that yet."
Matfield was a lynchpin in White's 2007 World Cup-winning Springbok side, and White says that even at 36, Matfield still has an enormous amount to offer.
"Victor is a fantastic player, and he's a massive leader in the Bulls culture. Not only has he played and captained them, he's now also been part of their coaching staff. I'm sure that everyone in the Bulls team will be really happy to have him around, and it will give a lot of confidence to everyone around him if he does run out of the tunnel."
