Grade 1 pupil recovers after being shot
Six-year-old grade 1 pupil Jermaine Taylor was caught in gang crossfire on his first day of school.
CAPE TOWN - The father of a six-year-old boy who was wounded in a gang shooting in Elsies River says he fears for the safety of his children.
Jerome Taylor's son Jermaine was due to start grade one at the Matroos Holy Trinity Primary School on Wednesday.
But Jermaine was shot in the hand in front of the school building when an unknown gunman opened fire.
A 17-year-old was also wounded in the attack.
Taylor says his son has been discharged from the Tygerberg Hospital, adding that while his son was excited to start school, he has been left traumatised.
"We heard gunshots, but I hadn't noticed my son had been shot. I just heard my wife scream and realised he was shot so I grabbed him to try and calm him down."
A man has been arrested for the shooting.
