Cosatu and Numsa to meet
Cosatu will meet to discuss Numsa’s decision not to support the ANC.
JOHANNESBURG - The Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) says it has set up a meeting with the National Union of Metalworkers South Africa (Numsa) to discuss its decision not to support the African National Congress (ANC) in the 2014 general elections.
In December, Numsa said it would neither endorse nor support the ruling party.
But it's not clear whether the union will also break away from Cosatu,
Cosatu President Sidumo Dlamini says there are many issues that need to be addressed as soon possible.
"We've written Numsa a letter suggesting we meet on Friday or on 24 January. We must have that meeting so that we can clear a number of issues and make Numsa acknowledge the difficulty imposed by their congress decision."
