JOHANNESBURG - Suspended Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) General Secretary Zwelinzima Vavi says he is in the process of consulting his lawyers and allies after receiving a charge sheet from the trade union federation.

Vavi was suspended five months ago after admitting to having an affair with a younger co-worker.

Nine unions supporting him have called for a special congress to deal with the claims against him.

Vavi's spokesperson John Dludlu says, "Finally, after five months of his illegal suspension Mr Vavi was served with a charge sheet. Once he has completed his consultation with his allies and a way forward has been agreed, we will comment further."
