Bafana disappoint with Mali draw
Bafana Bafana drew 1-1 against Mali in Cape Town in the African Nations.
CAPE TOWN - Bafana Bafana missed out on getting one step closer to qualifying for the knockout stages of the African Nations Championship.
They played to a one all draw against Mali on Wednesday evening at Cape Town Stadium.
The opening goal came when Lindokhule Mbatha was brought in the area by Adama Traoré.
Referee Mal Souley Mohamadou didn't hesitate and pointed to the spot. Bernard Parker then stepped up and converted the penalty.
Prior to this, Mali had their own penalty appeal when Itumeleng Khune made more contact with the player Abdoulaye Sissoko. No penalty was given.
The second half saw Mali making using of their strength with tackles flying in.
The pressure from the visitors paid off when they equalised through Ibrahima Sidibe's great control of the ball to get the strong finish past Khune.
Bafana then had an opportunity to take the lead for a second time but Asavela Mbekile completely missed from right in front of goal.
South Africa had numerous chances to take the lead but poor finishing yet again didn't allow this to happen.
They remain on top of their log with four points after their opening win over Mozambique last week.
Bafana face Nigeria in their last group on Sunday.
