JOHANNESBURG - The Hawks say there is no indication that the specialised unit's head, Shadrack Sibiya, is being investigated in connection with a drug bust.

The Sunday Times reported that a bust in Cape Town last week involved the notorious Sexy Boys gang and property mogul, Mark Lifman.

Sibiya apparently has ties to Lifman and although the South African Revenue Service is refusing to reveal names, it says 12 companies and associated individuals are being investigated.

Hawks spokesperson Paul Ramaloko says at this stage, there are no concrete links to Sibiya.

"We feel it is reckless to just mention individual's names in that manner. If the incidents have any legitimacy they will of course be attended to, but at the moment, we haven't got anything at hand that will point to any wrongdoing."
