Amcu to strike at Implats
The union’s members voted in favour of a strike over wages at Impala Platinum.
JOHANNESBURG - The Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) says its members have voted in favour of a strike over wages at Impala Platinum (Implats).
Amcu had earlier been given permission from a state mediator to launch strikes at Implats, Anglo American Platinum and Lonmin.
Simultaneous industrial action at all three platinum companies would hit at least half of global production of the metal and could take out as much as two thirds if Anglo American's joint venture operations are also affected.
Amcu's Joseph Mathunjwa says the mediator has confirmed that permission is still granted.
"They did confirm again to say, 'Yes, we are mandating you to serve the employer with a 48-hour notice for a strike.' We will serve the employer at an appropriate time."
