JOHANNESBURG - Bloemfontein teacher Yolande Korkie remains extremely concerned about the safety of her husband Pierre, who kidnappers in Yemen are refusing to release without ransom.

Relief group Gift of the Givers successfully managed to negotiate with the men to release Korkie on Friday without any money exchanging hands.

Yolande and Pierre went to Yemen in May 2013 to take up teaching posts when they were kidnapped.

Pierre is still being held hostage by men believed to be linked to terrorist group Al-Qaeda.

Gift of the Givers member Imtiaz Sooliman says arrangements are being made to allow Yolande to return to South Africa if she wishes.

"The ambassador to South Africa in Saudi Arabia is flying to Yemen to meet her to facilitate all documents and transport for her to come back to South Africa. If she wants to come back earlier, she is most welcome. If she decides to stay longer I'll be around while she negotiates for Pierre."
