8,000 bottles of liquor confiscated

Officials said 331 spot fines were issued to people drinking on Cape Town beaches.

CAPE TOWN - At least 8,000 bottles of alcohol were confiscated on Cape Town's beaches over the festive season, officials said on Friday.

Boozing on beaches is illega l, but many people still try and take chances.

Those caught were issued with a spot fine of over R1,000.

The City of Cape Town's JP Smith says, "We've issued 331 spot fines for alcohol-related contraventions totalling R165,000. The confiscated alcohol was taken to Ndabeni."
