SA team doing well at Dakar
South Africa’s Toyota Imperial team of Leeroy Poulter and Rob Howies finished third in stage three.
ARGENTINA - The third stage of the cars at the 2014 Dakar rally was a great one for South Africa's Toyota Imperial team of Leeroy Poulter and Rob Howie who finished in third place, with Nani Roma and Michel Perin winning the stage in a Mini.
Poulter says he was blown away by the team's performance. The result means Poulter and Howie have now moved to 10th position overall and Poulter admits they're slowly earning respect from the other drivers.
"We didn't get a puncture, we took it easy in the rocky sections and where we could go we went as fast as we can. Everyone starts acknowledging you and they now start to move out of the way when you catch them because they know you are going quite quickly. Each day is getting better and easier."
Roma and Perin now lead overall after Stéphane Peterhansel suffered a series of punctures. He finished the stage in 29th postion, forcing him to drop to fifth overall.
Giniel de Villiers and Dirk Von Zitzewitz finished the stage in 13th and dropped to sixth position overall.
On the bikes, Broadlink KTM's Riaan van Niekerk finished in 13th position to reach 12th place overall.
