Flooding shuts down N1 near Laingsburg
The N1 Highway through Laingsburg is flooded due to an overflowing river.
CAPE TOWN - As holidaymakers head home ahead of the start of school in the Western Cape next week, the N1 Highway running through Laingsburg has been closed to traffic as a part of the highway has been flooded by an overflowing river.
Parts of the Western Cape were lashed with torrential rains on Tuesday.
Rescuers are still searching for two missing people swept along the flooded Breede River in Robertson.
Roads were also flooded in Beaufort West, Ashton and Swellendam.
Laingsburg chief traffic officer Anton Cole says, "We've closed the N1 due to flooding at a river, but the bridge over the Buffels River is still open to traffic. The road towards Ladysmith is totally flooded."
