Galeshewe rape case postponed

CAPE TOWN - The case against a man accused of raping his six-week-old niece in Kimberley has been postponed to February.

The suspect appeared in the Kimberly Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old abandoned his bail application and is still refusing legal representation.

He was arrested in November shortly after the crime took place.

The child underwent several medical procedures following the incident.

The suspect will return to court on 12 February.

Meanwhile, Women, Children and People with Disabilities Minister Lulu Xingwana called for harsher sentences for rapists.
