SAPS 'hit list' to be discussed
Bheki Cele's revealed there’s a SAPS ‘hit list’ containing names of mistreated senior SAPS members.
JOHANNESBURG - An apparent hit list containing the names of senior members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) will be discussed by National Police Commissioner Riah Phiyega and her predecessor, following stark revelations made by Bheki Cele on Saturday.
Cele told mourners at the funeral of top cop Sean Tshabalala in Randburg that the former head of the inspectorate felt victimised within the police and was number one on the list.
The Sunday Independent is reporting that other prominent policemen, including Hawks Head Anwar Dramat and the would-be Provincial Commissioner of Gauteng Bethual Zuma are also on that list.
Phiyega spoke after Cele at Tshabalala's funeral and said it was the first time she's heard of the existence of such a list.
The SAPS has since confirmed Phiyega will meet with her predecessor as soon as possible, to discuss the matter.
The newspaper is also reporting that Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa was not inside the funeral hall when Cele made the revelations but spoke to him briefly afterwards and was handed an envelope.
Tshabalala's body was found in his office at the police's headquarters in Pretoria late last year.
His death is being investigated.
