JOHANNESBURG - North West Premier Thandi Modise has reportedly ignored a Cabinet directive against splurging on luxury vehicles and has treated herself to a R1.3 million rand BMW 750i.

But he has explained that no law was broken.

Elisha says the ministerial handbook states that a car to the value of 70 percent of a premier's salary can be purchased.

Last year Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan instructed ministers, MECs and premiers to halt extravagant spending on luxury cars.
