Elandsfontein train lines restored
Sixteen people were injured when a train travelling from Pretoria to Johannesburg derailed on Friday.
JOHANNESBURG - Metrorail has managed to restore all train lines which had been disrupted at Elandsfontein after a train derailment, the railway operator confirmed on Saturday.
Sixteen people were injured, two of them seriously, when a train travelling from Pretoria to Johannesburg derailed on Friday morning.
Eleven of those injured were treated and discharged from hospital on the same day.
Train services between the two cities were disrupted for the most part of yesterday as Metrorail technicians spent the afternoon clearing the tracks.
Metrorail spokesperson Lawrence Venkile says, "Following the incident on Friday morning there were a number of coaches derailed at Elandsfontein. We're pleased that almost all the injured that were admitted in hospital yesterday have been discharged.
"Only one person remains in hospital. Also the lines all opened yesterday evening and the service is back to normal."
