CAPE TOWN - Some Manenberg residents say while many Capetonians are relaxing and taking part in festivities, their community is gripped by fear as bullets continue to rain over the area.

Many people, including innocent children and adults, have lost their lives in Manenberg due to gang violence this year.

In one of the latest incidents earlier this week, a 31-year-old man was shot dead.

While residents fear the gang violence will only get worse as New Year celebrations approach, law enforcement officials continue to remain on high alert in the area.

Meanwhile, in another community plagued by gang violence, the Mitchells Plain Community Policing Forum says scores of drugs and firearms have been confiscated in Tafelsig.

The forum's Abie Isaacs says the confiscation was followed by tip-offs from community members.

"Firstly we want to commend the community for giving authorities information which has led to drugs and firearms being confiscated in the area. We want to thank the South African Police Service for sterling work which they've done."
