JOHANNESBURG - The ANC says it is not aware that its iconic 1994 election posters featuring Madiba are being sold.

It has emerged that a company has been selling the posters for over 18 years.

There are questions over who owns the rights to the posters and who is benefiting.

Unwembi Communications Director Tim Jenkins says he is surprised that the ANC has no knowledge of the posters as they have been advertised on the ruling party's website for many years.

"They've been on the website since 1995. I think it's one of the first websites in the country."

Jenkins says the posters which have been sold all over the world were sold for the ANC.

"We sold these posters on behalf of the ANC. We inherited the whole pile of them after the 1994 elections."

The ANC's Keith Khoza has denied that the ruling party is selling any Mandela items and refused to comment further.

Mandela passed away on 5 December at his Houghton home.
