CAPE TOWN - Western Cape Police Commissioner Arno Lamoer says the conviction of many high profile criminals is the most positive outcome of 2013.

This year the province saw the conviction of Thandi Maqubela for killing her husband and Johannes Kana was found guilty of the rape and murder of Anene Booysen in Bredasdorp.

Lamoer has commended the police investigators.

"Excellent work has been done and it clearly shows the commitment of our police officers in the Western Cape. Secondly, the confiscation of various drugs in the province clearly shows that we can do this more often."

However, he says the senseless killings of several police officers were his lowest point of the year.

"That was really a low for us. That's one thing that really affected the police badly."
