CAPE TOWN - At least 30 people have been left homeless after a shack fire in Khayelitsha in Cape Town.

Several shacks were gutted in the township's TR section in the early hours of this morning.

Fire and Rescue Service's Theo Layne says, "Eight shacks were destroyed by fire. Approximately 30 people have been displaced and no injuries or fatalities have been reported. The cause of the fire is still unknown at this stage."

Meanwhile, the City of Cape Town says it's still providing relief aid to the more than 1,500 residents of fire-stricken Valhalla Park.

Hundreds of shacks were destroyed when a fire broke out in the area on Monday.

Some locals from the Agstelaan Informal Settlement protested there on Thursday, demanding better homes.

It has now been claimed the blaze may have been caused by a petrol bomb thrown by rival gangsters in the area.
