Rip currents claim 2 lives in CT
Severe rip currents on the Cape coast have claimed the lives of two people.
CAPE TOWN - The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) says two people have drowned in separate incidents over the last 24 hours in the Western Cape.
A 15-year-old boy was swept out to sea by a rip current while swimming at Struisbaai beach.
While a 28-year-old man drowned near Stilbaai.
The NSRI's Craig Lambinon said, "It appears the man actually went in the water to help someone, but he got into trouble himself and disappeared underwater. During our 3 hour search his body was recovered and handed over to the forensic pathology department. Police have opened an inquest docket."
