SAPS: Death of cop a major loss
Lieutenant General Layton Mzondeki ‘Sean’ Tshabalala was found dead in his office.
JOHANNESBURG - The death of Divisional Commissioner of the Inspectorate Lieutenant General Layton Mzondeki 'Sean' Tshabalala is a loss for law enforcement and the country as a whole, the South African Police Service (SAPS) said on Tuesday.
Tshabalala's body was found in his office at the SAPS headquarters in Pretoria this morning.
The cause of his death has not yet been established.
Employees discovered his body in his office.
Tshabalala was last seen working late yesterday afternoon.
Police spokesperson Solomon Makgale says Tshabalala was an important part of the service and noted his rise through the ranks.
"It is a loss to the South African Police Service. I'm sure it is also a loss to his family, close colleagues and his friends."
Makgale says authorities are investigating his death.
